OVERCOMING PRIDE, AVERSION, AND SHAME
Self-love is a challenge for many people blocked by destructive personal stories and emotions they’ve turned against themselves. Yet self-love is organic — and surprisingly simple — when you learn how to get out of our own way.
March / April

RELATIONSHIP AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Life without deep connection to others is a recipe for unhappiness. The spiritual principle of inter-being requires a person to open her heart — and let others in – if she hopes for a satisfying, resonant life. This is harder than appears, though, and requires practice.

SHADOWS OF THE HEART:
HEALING THE WOUNDS THAT BIND YOU
Love requires the willingness to know yourself in all your depth and complexity. The heart has its shadows, just like the mind, and needs the light of awareness (mindful attention) in order to heal itself. Only then can you learn true compassion.

THE FAMILY YOU CHOOSE:
KINSHIP AND THE LIMITS OF BIOLOGY
Affinity is just as important as blood when it comes to creating family bonds. The kinships you create beyond family bounds — with friends, colleagues, and fellow seekers — are frequently more intimate and enduring than those you were born with.

THE MIRACLE OF SYMPATHETIC JOY:
DISCOVERING THE GIFTS OF MUDITA
The ability to take pleasure in others’ good fortune is the antidote to selfishness, envy, and greed. Termed mudita in the Buddhist tradition, sympathetic joy can deepen relationships, elevate your heart and mind, and foster generosity (and gratitude) toward the other.

FALLING IN LOVE WITH MYSTERY:
WAKING UP TO THE UNSEEN WORLD
Cultivating your relationship to Source — call it God, the divine, or Buddha Nature — is the most important connection of a human lifetime. Becoming intimate with the Ground of Being itself deepens your life immeasurably, revealing the spiritual Lover you truly are.
