So enjoyed the recording of this session and loved Arthol's honesty--made me laugh.  To the question do I object to the idea of escapism, my answer is "No, not at all.  I couldn't survive this world without it."  Being plugged in for too long is bad for me.  Too much activity depletes me, and I can only handle small talk for so long.  I don't often tell people of my need to be alone, spend some time by myself, because those that have a strong need to connect sometimes don't understand it.

Thanks, Diane!  I'm glad you enjoyed the session.  As you mention, there is no point in explaining to others WHY you need a lot of alone time - you're not asking permission and folks who "have a strong need to connect sometimes don't understand it," as you point out. But it is important to be clear about boundaries when they're not respected.  That's why, as the saying goes, no is a complete sentence. It's good that you're aware of and respect your limitations; then, the time you do share with others can be sincerely offered and mutually enjoyed.  Have a good week!
