Apple

Apple

I’ve heard it takes the hacking of a body

to make a woman.

Knock out a rib.

Does this mean that women are formed through heavy blows,

delivered as percussion?

Strikes smacking hard enough

to knock a sense of separation

from their heads, connecting

them to life,

all forms of it?

No, that’s only patriarchal rumor.

That linkage happens anyway,

to some people and not others,

no matter what

their exterior sex is.

It’s all a matter of choices.

There are those who call all

bodies sin,

as an excuse to pound out

their frustrations.

They want to swell the flesh,

curving it into meekness.

Docility that cannot,

will not be,

due to body’s aliveness.

Let curiosity connect you

to your body.

Taste the apple.

Swallow the notion of

your body as a celebration.
